about

The tracks were initially recorded during April/May 2020 and all started as improvisations: some as part of three virtual Zoom rehearsals with LAMP - a project with dancer Ewa Limanówka and lighting designer Francesc Serra Vila - and some as part of experiments to integrate and sync equipment. The recordings were a little rough, some of the gear is old and prone to drift out of tune, humm, hiss and buzz - all of which can give ambience... but there was a little too much character.

I cleaned up the tracks, beat-mapped, applied effects and extracted MIDI data from some of the audio. This helped construct additional MIDI tracks, often using a free voice synthesiser - AlterEgo

The “lyrics” are cut-ups of online articles about robots.
Some of the improvisations were 40 minutes long and needed to be edited, chopped into sections (hence some being labeled Pt1 etc.), chunks deleted or spliced together, sped up, slowed down and changed in pitch.

Equipment: Roland SH-101, Artura Micro Brute, Moog Mother, Sanco rhythm box, Korg Volca Beats and Volca Keys, modified Columbus electric guitar, Artura Beatstep Pro. sequencer, Gibson Echoplex Digital Pro, self built electronic circuits, acoustic instruments, toys, found objects, Koma Field Kit and Field Fit FX, contact microphones, FX pedal board.
