about

All these tracks are from between 1980 and 1989. Throughout I was working as an Oceanographer, spent a total of 2 years at sea, co-authored 20 or so papers and analysed a lot of seawater. I also got married, bought a house in Norwich, moved to Lowestoft, had a brief, mad, sad affair (can you spot the song?), went straight-edge (almost), and - most importantly - helped bring up my stepdaughter Rebecca.

I split up with Sarah, my wife, at the end of the 80s and immediately quit the job to travel around Europe; spent about two years getting into folk and blues and went back to uni, but that’s another story...

You can hear: a Tascam Porta 1 4-track recorder which comes in about 1983, replacing the previous two cassette “ping-pong” technique; a CX5M Yamaha Music Computer entering around 1985: and an RX11 Yamaha drum machine replacing my old Dr Rhythm in 1987.

released May 27, 2021

1 - "It’s All Too Much” by George Harrison.
2 - "I'm a Believer" by Neil Diamond.
3 - "No One Receiving” by Brian Eno.

Cos played sang and mixed things

Mastered and Curated by Justin Patten for Beauty and Disgust.

The cover features my sisters Sue and Jacqui from around 1983 and was probably taken by my Mum. Jacquie was slightly annoyed that I put up a picture with her hair "like that..." - but I think she looks as fab and lovely as ever (OK, I may be biased).
